Cooking and Kitchen Safety for the Blind: A Mini Course from FAFTB

If you want to Meet Justine, a kitchen magician who is here to help blind and low-vision folks cook safely and confidently! Justine is a foodie with all kinds of methods for keeping blind cooks safe and happy in the kitchen.

This is a free mini course offered by First Aid for the Blind. In 15 minutes, you’ll get tips and tricks for navigating the kitchen to find ingredients, measure effectively, keep the space neat and tidy, and ensure your safety while handling sharp and hot objects. Plus, we’ve compiled all the links to the gadgets Justine mentions in the video, so if you feel inspired, you can get the items you want without delay and be one step closer to living life the way you want.

First Aid for the Blind is committed to supporting the blind community through education. Justine teaches a broader cooking lesson to each of our clients, tailoring the information to the needs of the individual. Her lesson is one component of our training, which gives blind and low-vision folks basic life skills that are needed to navigate daily tasks. We want each client to feel safe, confident, and empowered to live life wholly.

Watch the video below and then check out the gadget list! Plus, Justine’s favorite recipes and our own Kitchen Magician theme song are shared at the bottom of the page.

If you would like to pursue the full First Aid for the Blind training (25 personalized lessons completed over Zoom in about a week with no wait list), please call us at 317-909-0286.
