FAFTB News: Don't Forget To Vote

First Aid for the Blind wants to remind everyone that voting is an important way to show up for the disabilities community. And, if you are disabled, there are often measures in place to help you cast your vote.

"People can vote very easily using accessible techniques and devices at their voting locations," said Kurt Deichmann, president and CEO of First Aid for the Blind. "We've made many advancements in accessibility, and we hope that by voting for informed, compassionate leaders, we will see those advancements continue over the years."

FAFTB is based in Indiana, and laws are in place here to help those who need assistance, including blind and low-vision folks. Check out these resources:

  • Disability Rights: This site says that a person can designate a friend or family member to help them vote, or even get assistance from a poll worker. It also includes contact information if there was ever a need to lodge an accessiblity-related complaint.

  • Ways to Vote: If you have the option of voting early, you can access other accessibility tools, and use your own, to cast your vote. There is even an email option.

  • Polling Location and Other Information: This site will give you contact information about your polling place so you can call ahead of time to ask about accessibility options.

For people outside of Indiana, visit accessiblevoting.net to learn about accessible voting efforts in your state.

It is every American citizen's right and privilege to vote, and it's such a great opportunity to show support for leaders and initatives that make the world a better place for people with disabilities.
